Impact on Education in India due to COVID-19

The Covid-19 pandemic has notably disrupted various sectors in India which includes automobiles, aviation, oil and gas, agriculture, retail, etc. There is hardly any sector remain unaffected by the crisis.

When we talk about the impact on Education due to Covid-19, UNESCO estimated that, In India alone, around 32 corers students have been affected by COVID-19. All the Schools & Colleges are closed, entrance exams are delayed, and results are awaited. The government along with many other top schools and institutes has recommended shifting to “online teaching.”

The idea of shifting traditional education to online education highlighted India’s immense digital divide.

  1. In an annual report of National Sample Survey 2017-18, it is mentioned that only 23.8 percent of Indian households had internet access.
  2. In rural households, only 14.9 out of 66 percent of the population had access to the internet and in urban households, only 42 percent had internet access.
  3. Only 42 % percent of women had access to mobile internet, compared to 59 % percent of men to the total population.
